Local Counsel

Lawyers not admitted to the State Bar of California or the Bar of the United States District Court for the Central District of California must associate with local counsel.

We often serve as local counsel for firms that do not have a Los Angeles office, including some of the most eminent firms in the country. Our role varies with the needs of non-California counsel. Sometimes the firm takes a very limited role, while in other cases the firm actively assists in the litigation. In all cases, we are prepared to answer any questions that non-California lawyers could have about procedures in either federal or state court.

The procedure for appearing pro hac vice in the California courts is set forth in Rule 9.40 of the California Rules of Court. The web site for the Los Angeles Superior Court is www.lasuperiorcourt.org. The web site for the California Court of Appeal, 2nd District, is www.courtinfo.ca.gov/courts/courtsofappeal/2ndDistrict/.

The procedure for appearing pro hac vice in the United States District Court for the Central District of California is set forth in Local Rules 83-2.3 and 83-2.8.2 of the Local Civil Rules of the Central District.
